Antonella Cardone, Patient Advocacy Expert, represented PCE at the ESMO Congress on 9 September 2022 in Paris.
The ESMO Congress is the most important oncology platform in Europe for clinicians, researchers, patient advocates, journalists, and the healthcare industry from all over the world. The 2022 edition presented the very latest advances in the treatment of cancer and offered an educational programme, with opportunities for an exchange of ideas among delegates through an enhanced onsite and virtual experience.
Antonella introduced the topic “How cancer patients can interact with Policymakers”. In particular, she focused on who are the policymakers of our interest; the need for interaction between researchers, patients, pharma companies, and patients; how to be effective in the interactions. According to her, if we want to change, improve or adapt any practice in favor of cancer patients, we need to implement a change at the top, at the policy level (law, decree, regulation), and at the bottom, at the implementation level.
