2026 S3A award winner

2026 | Early Career Investigator (ECI) Short-term Scientific Stay Award (S3A)

The Winner:

Mireia Andueza Peral, a PhD researcher at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), is the winner of the 2026 PCE Early Career Investigator Short-term Scientific Stay Award.

Mireia’s research focuses on using artificial intelligence to integrate multi-omics liquid biopsy data for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

As part of the award, she began a three-month research stay at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, on 1 September 2026, under the supervision of Professor Amit Roshan.

The project:

During her stay, Mireia will develop computational methods for analysing circulating cell-free DNA and integrating these data with other molecular and clinical information.

Her work aims to improve approaches to the early detection of pancreatic cancer by combining different types of biological data and identifying meaningful patterns through artificial intelligence.

The scientific stay will also strengthen collaboration between the research teams at CNIO and the Barts Cancer Institute within the PANCAID project, supporting the exchange of knowledge and expertise across institutions.

Acknowledgements

The 2026 Short-term Scientific Stay Award was made possible through the generous support of researchers who contributed to PCE’s fundraising campaign. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone whose donation helped create this valuable opportunity for an early-career pancreatic cancer researcher.

We also gratefully acknowledge Gianpiero Vecchi’s generous donation, made in honour of his mother, Rita Vecchi.

PCE deeply appreciates the commitment of all our supporters to advancing pancreatic cancer research and investing in the next generation of researchers.
